Lee Iacocca, a former Ford executive and one of the legends of automotive design, is largely credited with the birth of the Ford Mustang. He undoubtedly had big dreams for the pony car at launch, and yes, the Mustang was an instant hit, but even he couldn’t have imagined how big of a success the Mustang would grow to become.

On April 17, 1964, Iacocca, together with Henry Ford, officially presented the first Mustang to the public at the New York World’s Fair. Six decades later, with well over 10 million units sold, the Ford Mustang has firmly established itself as one of the most popular sports cars in the world.
