This 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 tribute, chassis number SFM5S250, is a recreation of the famed SCCA B Production champion, the GT350R. Built by Ford and then transformed by Carroll Shelby, the GT350R was a turn-key racing machine derived from the standard GT350.
This particular car started life as an incomplete K-code Mustang fastback built in San Jose, California. It was then shipped to Shelby American’s facility near Los Angeles for its GT350 conversion in early 1965. The car was completed on May 17th and shipped to a California dealer before finding its first owner in 1967.
In the 1990s, a California owner modified the car to resemble the legendary GT350R. This included visual modifications like a fiberglass front apron with integrated brake cooling ducts, a painted rear bumper, and a vented plexiglass rear window. It even saw vintage racing action between 1995 and 2005.
The car boasts a Wimbledon White paint job with black stripes, a timeless combination. Under the hood sits a replacement 289ci V8 built by Tony Oddo, paired with a Tex Racing four-speed manual transmission for a thrilling driving experience.
Adding to its racing spirit, the car features front disc brakes, Koni shock absorbers, 15-inch alloy wheels, an oil cooler, a fuel cell, an electric fuel pump, 1966-style brake scoops, bolstered bucket seats, four-point harnesses, and a roll cage.
