The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD has made history as the first American car to lap the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife in under seven minutes. With Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller behind the wheel, the Mustang GTD clocked an impressive 6:57.685.
This officially certified time ranks as the fifth-fastest for a production sports car on the Nürburgring and makes the 815-horsepower Mustang GTD only the sixth car in its class to break the seven-minute barrier. This achievement delivers on the promise made by Ford CEO Jim Farley to create a road-legal American car that can lap the legendary racetrack in less than 7 minutes.
“The team behind Mustang GTD took what we’ve learned from decades on the track and engineered a Mustang that can compete with the world’s best supercars,” said Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO. “We’re proud to be the first American automaker with a car that can lap the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, but we aren’t satisfied. We know there’s much more time to find with Mustang GTD. We’ll be back.”
Ford has also published a video on all of its social media channels called The Road To The Ring, a 13-minute documentary, showcasing the development journey, from testing on iconic American tracks to the Nürburgring itself.
