A Closer Look at the Special Edition Ford Mustang GTD

The Mustang GTD Spirit of America pays tribute to the marque's rich history

Ford is celebrating 60 years of Mustang performance and American ingenuity with the debut of the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, a car that honors both Mustang’s racing history and the pioneering spirit that helped shape it.

This new model takes inspiration from the iconic 1964 Mustang and highlights the brand’s evolution from a compact sedan to a world-class performer. The GTD Spirit of America pays tribute to significant milestones, such as Mustang’s first race win at the 1964 Tour de France and its historic Nürburgring lap under 7 minutes—the first by an American automaker.

It features twin painted racing stripes in Race Red and Lightning Blue, echoing the Mustang tribar logo first seen in 1964. These stripes are a nod to the racing legacy that has defined the Mustang brand. The car’s exterior is accentuated with exposed carbon fiber elements, including a front splitter, rear diffuser, and spoiler with Race Red end plates.

Inside, the GTD Spirit of America features Recaro seats with special blue stitching, a carbon fiber dashboard, and a rear seat delete that makes way for the innovative pushrod rear suspension. It comes with leather-trimmed seats featuring unique Race Red and Victory Blue accents as well as 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters.

The 2025 Mustang GTD, including this special edition, sets a new benchmark for Mustang performance with 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 202 mph, making it the fastest street-legal Mustang ever.
