Don’t Miss This Rare ’67 Shelby GT500

One of only 6 finished in Dark Moss Green for the model year

A rare 1967 Shelby GT500 Fastback is being auctioned at Mecum Kissimmee 2025 on Saturday, January 18th. Estimated to fetch between $300,000 and $360,000, this Shelby promises to be a highlight of the auction.

The 1967 Shelby GT500 marked a significant milestone. It was built on the updated Ford Mustang platform capable of housing the big-block FE-series V-8 engines. Powered by the 428 Police Interceptor V-8, this new GT500 was conservatively rated at 355 horsepower, with real output closer to 400. It delivered an impressive 420 lb-ft of torque and brutal acceleration that could easily burn rubber.

This model also symbolized the end of an era for Shelby American, as it was the last to be produced in California before production moved to Ionia, Michigan, under the direct control of Ford for the 1968-69 models. Only 2,048 fastback versions of this powerful 1967 model were made.

This particular 1967 Shelby GT500 is even rarer. Sold originally by Johnny Bolton Ford in Maitland, Florida, it’s just 43 cars equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission and factory air conditioning and one of only six finished in Dark Moss Green. After undergoing an award-winning rotisserie restoration completed in 2022, the car earned the prestigious Concours Gold award at SAAC-47.

In addition to its 428 Police Interceptor V-8 engine, 4-speed manual gearbox, and SelectAire factory air conditioning, this GT500 is packed with desirable options. It includes a black vinyl interior, power brakes with front discs, an AM radio, shoulder harnesses, an oil cooler, power steering, the Interior Decor group, and a tinted windshield.

The car rides on striking Deluxe wheels wrapped in 1960s-style Goodyear tires. A Deluxe Marti Report documenting the car’s original features and production data is included with the sale to confirm its authenticity and exclusivity.
