Mustang restomods have become a popular trend among enthusiasts who appreciate the classic styling of vintage Mustangs but desire the performance, reliability, and comfort of modern vehicles. These vehicles often feature updated engines, advanced suspension systems, modernized interiors, and state-of-the-art safety features.
In a recent video from Autotopia LA, we get to see a stunning 1965 Mustang built by Vince Hernandez, a young and talented builder whose company, RestoMod Mustangs, specializes in creating custom, turn-key classic cars. This car, commissioned by a client, was designed with inspiration from Ken Block’s iconic Hoonicorn but aimed for versatility, reliability, and show-ready appeal.
Under the hood, the Mustang boasts a 401-cubic-inch small-block Windsor engine equipped with twin 72mm T4 turbos, delivering an impressive 600 horsepower to the rear wheels on just five pounds of boost. Vince noted that this output is dialed back for reliability during initial testing, but the setup can handle up to 850 horsepower with an increased boost. Paired with a T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission, this lightweight car—estimated at 3,200 pounds—offers a thrilling yet manageable driving experience.
