FOR SALE: 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500 Fastback

One of only 22 fastbacks built for the model year

In 1967, Shelby introduced the GT500, featuring a robust 428ci (7.0-liter) Cobra Jet V8 engine. Starting in 1968, production shifted to the A O Smith Company’s plant in Ionia, Michigan. Shelby Mustangs continued to display their unique modifications while incorporating updates from the standard models until production ceased in 1970.

The GT500, unlike the already impressive GT350, was a remarkable muscle car with luxurious features, delivering a distinct driving experience. It was not only powerful and fast but also comfortable, making it a versatile vehicle suitable for both weekend outings and racing.

This particular 1968 Shelby GT500 Fastback currently listed for sale on Bring A Trailer is a prime collector’s item, featuring original matching numbers and an outstanding pedigree. It may be the only authentic Black, 4-speed with air conditioning car of its kind.

It is equipped with a 428ci V8 engine with a four-barrel Holley carburetor, rated at 360 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, powering the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
