FOR SALE: 1968 Shelby Mustang GT500KR Fastback

Wimbledon White 1968 GT500KR

The 1968 Shelby GT500KR, powered by a potent 428 Cobra Jet engine, stands as an iconic symbol of automotive prowess, recognized as the ultimate “King of the Road.” Initially introduced with a factory rating of 335 HP, the Cobra Jet actually delivered significantly more power, complemented by enhancements like larger brakes, underhood bracing, and staggered rear shocks.

Offered for sale on Bring A Trailer, this specific GT500KR was originally purchased new from Kimnach Ford in Norfolk, Virginia. After being sold to a friend in the early 1970s and stored disassembled until 2010, the car underwent a meticulous restoration upon its return to the owner’s possession.

The restoration included a repaint in the original Wimbledon White and a rebuild of the 428ci Cobra Jet V8 by George Coleman of CAMS Racing Engines in 2013. Equipped with a four-speed manual transmission and 3.50 Trac-Lok rear axle, this GT500KR retains its factory specifications, boasting a four-barrel carburetor producing 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque.

Inside, the cabin features black vinyl upholstery, front buckets, a Sport Deck rear bench, and period-correct amenities like a Philco AM radio and heater. Additional upgrades include woodgrain appliqués from the Interior Décor Group and enhanced visibility courtesy of the Visibility Group’s lighting additions.
