Released on April 17, 1999, to commemorate the Mustang’s 35th anniversary, the 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R was designed as a high-performance, track-focused machine. Under the hood, a 5.4-liter DOHC V8 engine—fitted with modified Lincoln Navigator cylinder heads, high-lift camshafts, and a custom intake with a K&N air filter—produced 385 horsepower.
SVT reinforced the engine with a forged crankshaft, Carillo billet-steel connecting rods, and forged pistons. Exhaust gases exited through short-tube headers, a Bassani X-pipe, and Borla mufflers with side-exit tips ahead of the rear wheels.
Built on the 1999 Cobra platform, this model was the only Cobra R equipped with an independent rear suspension. It came factory-equipped for track performance, featuring a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission, a limited-slip differential with 3.55 gears, Brembo four-wheel disc brakes, Eibach lowering springs, monotube struts and shocks, and a 21-gallon fuel cell.
The aerodynamic package included a distinct front splitter, a seven-inch rear wing, and a “power dome” hood designed to accommodate the intake system. Five-spoke 18×9.5-inch cast aluminum wheels with BFGoodrich tires completed the aggressive setup. Weight reduction measures included the removal of the rear seat, sound insulation, air conditioning, and the stereo system.
This 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is one of just 300 produced and has only 744 miles on the odometer. It is finished in Performance Red with a Dark Charcoal cloth interior and features Recaro racing seats, keyless entry, and power accessories. It retains its factory suspension upgrades, including Bilstein shocks, Eibach springs, and thicker sway bars, as well as its Brembo braking system with ventilated discs and four-piston front calipers.
With its extremely low mileage and factory-original specifications, this 2000 Cobra R represents a rare opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts. Currently listed on Bring A Trailer, this example offers an excellent chance to own one of the most track-focused Mustangs ever produced.
