The Boss 351 was perhaps best known for its significant performance merit. Beneath its hood was a 351 cubic-inch V8 engine that generated 330 horsepower at 5,800 RPM and 380 lb-ft of torque at 3,400 RPM. Acceleration figures were equally notable, with the Boss 351 achieving 0-60 MPH in just 5.7 seconds and covering the quarter-mile in under 15 seconds.

This Mustang variant offered a comprehensive performance package, featuring Competition Suspension with 15-inch wheels and staggered rear shocks, a Hurst-shifted 4-speed transmission, 3.91 Traction-Lok gears in Ford’s robust 9-inch rear end, and a functional Ram-Air hood with NASA scoops.

Mandatory equipment included power front disc brakes and an Instrumentation Group with three gauges centrally mounted. Visually distinctive, the Boss 351 models were characterized by a front chin spoiler, two-tone hood, lower body and hockey-stick side stripes, and “Boss 351” block-style decals on the front fenders and rear deck.

Production of the Boss 351 was brief, ending after the 1971 model year. Ford subsequently discontinued the entire Boss lineup as it shifted focus away from racing. Today, the Boss 351 is highly coveted for its rarity, with only 1,806 units ever produced.
