Mustang Of The Day: 1973 Ford Mustang Trans-Am Race Car

This 1973 Ford Mustang Sportsroof was initially delivered as an unfinished body to Tope Racing Enterprises, later being assembled by Hinchliff Racing using parts from Kar-Kraft. It was driven by Ed Hinchliff in the SCCA Trans-Am series in the Category I class from 1977 to 1980.

The car is powered by a 351ci Cleveland V8 engine paired with a Toploader four-speed manual transmission and features a full-floating rear axle with a locked differential. The widened body, painted in orange and black, includes a fiberglass hood, fender caps, and wheel-arch extensions.

The race-prepped interior is equipped with a roll cage, a single racing seat, and a Hurst shifter. Additional features include a chin spoiler, a rear wing, side-exit exhaust pipes, 15” alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a Watt’s linkage.
