Mustang Of The Day: 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake

In 1965, Shelby American began its storied legacy by injecting high performance into Ford’s Mustang. The partnership reached new heights in 1967 when Shelby installed a 427 CI V-8 engine from a GT40 into a Mustang fastback, creating the first Shelby Super Snake, a truly formidable machine.

After ending its collaboration with Ford in 1969, the GT500 and Super Snake names remained dormant for decades. However, Shelby American reunited with Ford in 2007 to introduce a new generation of the GT500 and GT500 Super Snake, celebrating the model’s 40th anniversary.

These cars were designed for enthusiasts who found 500 HP insufficient, offering a staggering 725 HP from a Kenne Bell supercharged 5.4L V-8 engine paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

To handle the immense power, Shelby engineers equipped the cars with 6-piston Baer calipers and cross-drilled and vented rotors for superior braking. Additionally, a Ford Racing handling package was added, featuring lowered springs, dynamic adjustable dampers, and stabilizer bars to enhance performance and control.
