In 2012, Shelby American unveiled the second-generation GT500 Super Snake at the New York International Auto Show. Staying true to its roots, the new Super Snake prioritized raw power, featuring a 5.4L V-8 engine with a 3.6L Kenne Bell supercharger, capable of delivering up to 800 horsepower and 714 lb-ft of torque.
To handle this immense power, Shelby equipped the car with 6-piston Baer calipers and cross-drilled, vented rotors for enhanced braking, along with a Ford Racing handling package that included lowered springs, adjustable dampeners, and stabilizer bars for improved control.
Visually, the 2012 Super Snake was a standout, with Shelby American introducing a custom fiberglass hood with traditional Shelby hood pins. The car retained the brand’s iconic racing stripes, offered in matte black or matte white, depending on customer preference. “Super Snake” badges were prominently displayed, particularly near the front fender wells.
Inside, the GT500 Super Snake featured several Shelby-style upgrades, such as embroidered floor mats, headrests, and special “Shelby” stitching throughout the interior. Each vehicle also came with a numbered dash placard, certifying its authenticity. The result was a powerful, uniquely styled car that honored Shelby’s legacy.
