Before the Mustang became a global sensation, Ford executives originally saw it as a short-term project, expecting the model to generate quick profits and then be discontinued within a decade. However, after selling over half a million units between its launch on April 17, 1964, and the end of 1966, Ford realized the Mustang had far more potential than anticipated.
In 2015, to commemorate 50 years of Mustang legacy, Ford introduced the special Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition. This exclusive model was only offered in Kona Blue or Wimbledon White, the same colors as the first two Mustangs ever produced. Limited to just 1,964 units, each came equipped with the Performance Package and a range of premium comfort and convenience features.
Under the hood, the 50 Year Limited Edition boasts an upgraded 5.0-liter V8 engine delivering over 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. Every model is equipped with the Mustang GT performance package, which includes six-piston Brembo front brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance Y-speed-rated Pirelli P-Zero summer tires.
