The 2021 Mustang GT/CS continues a legacy that began in 1968 with the introduction of the first California Special, a model aimed at performance car enthusiasts in California. These early California Specials focused mostly on cosmetic enhancements to give the Mustang a unique appearance.

After its initial run, Ford paused GT/CS production for nearly 40 years, reviving it in 2007 with a modern take on the original design. Since then, the GT/CS Mustang has been produced consistently, with only brief breaks for generational updates.

The 2021 GT/CS follows the same tradition, featuring eye-catching cosmetic upgrades that appeal to both consumers and critics. These include a distinctive front grille, front and rear spoilers, two-tone 19-inch wheels, and custom side scoops. Unlike the original 1968 model, the 2021 GT/CS also offers a convertible option, allowing drivers to enjoy open-air cruising.

Inside, the 2021 GT/CS boasts a more luxurious interior, with Miko Suede inserts, red stitching, and a “Carbon Hex” aluminum instrument cluster. The GT/CS emblem is embossed on the headrests, floor mats, and instrument panel.

Beyond aesthetics, the 2021 GT/CS delivers serious performance with a 5.0L V8 engine producing 460 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, available with a 10-speed automatic or 6-speed manual. It can reach 155 MPH, achieve 0-60 in about 4 seconds, and complete the quarter-mile in 12.2 seconds, offering the thrilling performance expected of a Mustang.
