The competition between Japanese and American cars has been quite fierce over the years. American muscle cars lost some of their dominance, only beginning to regain their swagger in the 1990s.
Although the rivalry has improved, the 2024 Ford Mustang GT is now facing fewer domestic competitors, prompting Sam CarLegion on YouTube to match it up against the 2023 Nissan Z in a drag race.
The Mustang GT comes with a 5.0L V8 engine, delivering 486 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. The Nissan Z, meanwhile, is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine, which typically produces 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, but in this race, it’s been modified with a tune, exhaust, intake, and Michelin tires, boosting it to 480 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque.
While the Mustang’s sheer power gave it an early advantage, the lighter Z’s enhanced handling and traction allowed it to close the gap and eventually surpass the Mustang. Watch the video to see how things went down.
