In the early years of the Mustang’s life, it was not all that uncommon to see the pony car at the drag strip or cruising down the highway. Yet, even back then, with input from Carroll Shelby, the Mustang could turn both right and left with some skill. In fact, of all the muscle cars of the time, only our favorite car could legitimately challenge European cars around tight and twisty race tracks.
It has never been the stated purpose of the Mustang to be a sports car, but it still has a lot of that race-bred DNA in its blood in every single generation. To that point, the modern S550 and S650 generations are legitimate track weapons, even generating a GT3 race car that took the fight to Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, and everyone else at Le Mans in 2024 and came third in class. Owners of all generations love to go find a “Mustang Road” to tear up. But, we hear you asking, what is a “Mustang Road?”
